LANGUAGE LAB

Engineering is one of the biggest fields of study in the world and many works of research and studies are recorded in English. English is very important for non-native English users because it is widely spoken all around the world. Persuasive English allows people to enjoy their lives and work without any issue where they are. For engineering students, whose mother tongue is not English, mastering English is even more important not only for their scholastic life but also for their prospective career. Without a good command of the language, engineering students find themselves being unable to understand the underlying concept or idea that the authors try to convey in their papers. Moreover, many elements in engineering require writing academic reports such as lab reports, projecting reports etc. Hence a good grasp of English language is necessary.

English Language Communication Skills Laboratory is a course for undergraduate Engineering and Technology students studying in colleges affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University, Hyderabad (JNTUH). The course was introduced in August 2005. The main objective of the course is to develop students’ communication skills and equip them for campus placement and recruitment. It will help both for the rural and regional medium background students and also English medium students to improve their communication skills.

Employment in companies for engineering students is dependent on their effective English. The students’ communication skills are noticeable in an interview by a panel of judges. Students can learn English by using the communication lab, which helps them to speak with exact pronunciation.

BRIDGE COURSE

The Bridge Course is the foundation for first year B. Tech. students. Purpose of this bridge course is to bridge the gap between what the students need to know before they can start taking the advanced courses in the college level and what they are actually aware of the subject in intermediate level. The bridge course helps to come on typical weaknesses of students in science at the 10+2 level.

The sad reality of today is that most students, who have been through the pre-university courses, have no conceptual understanding of the subject matter. This course helps students from rural background and will brush up their academic knowledge.  Every student, on admission, would be put through a mandatory bridge course to reinforce the fundamental concepts and the required language skills for technical education.

During this bridge course week, interaction with the faculty and their classmates, students will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence needed to face challenges as upcoming engineers of this nation. Intensive foundation courses in Basic Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English are given. The Bridge Course is intended to act as a buffer for the new technocrats, with an objective to provide adequate time for the transition to hard-core engineering courses.

According to the number of freshly enrolled students, the students are divided into two groups i.e. Group one as Non-circuit branch involving students of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Group two as circuit branch involving students of Computer Science Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology.

Bridge course in the institute was welcomed with a positive note by all the staff members on a short notice. Bridge course brought awareness amongst students about revising basic subjects which helps them to study their core engineering subjects easily.

SOFT SKILLS

Soft skills are all those personal attributes that sit outside of your professional qualifications and work experience. They refer to how you interact, lead and communicate with other people and they’re an essential foundation for any successful career. Strong communication skills, the ability to speak in plain English, building positive relationships and showing inspiring leadership qualities – typically called “soft skills” – are becoming increasingly essential for engineering professionals.

As soft skills are less referable to your qualifications and more personality-driven, it is important to consider what your soft skills are and how you might show evidence of them before you apply for a job. This is particularly true of the recruitment process for graduate programmes, where transferable skills and potential often take precedence over professional experience.

Many engineering professionals assume that their technical expertise and experience is the only thing that will get them a job. However, this is changing as engineers are increasingly expected to partner with the business, and these soft skills – when coupled with the right combination of technical skills – are in great demand, and can set you apart in a highly competitive jobs market.

Strong communication skills are essential in the engineering field, as you may often need to explain technical information to a non-technical or “lay” audience. Technical knowledge is critical, but the ability to communicate it accurately and concisely to an uninitiated audience is just as important.

YOGA AND MEDITATION

There are different styles of yoga which will transform every individual in different dimensions. “Inner calmness and outer dynamism”, which means when you are calm from within, the dynamism comes out in most effective way –Sri Sri Ravishankar Ji.

Scientific research proves that regular meditation helps to improve the overall performance for the human and also they have demonstrated its benefit from physiological to psychological. Yoga and Meditation practices improve efficiency, improve attention, fostering emotional balance, facilitating interpersonal interest and teamwork and cooperative activities more generally. Meditation creates the perfect environment for intellectual growth and learning. Yoga and meditation help professionals to overcome stress, to reduce health issues, to improve professional relationships and to boost productivity in college students.

College students have more difficulties during their academic paths. The biggest challenge to student success is time management, balancing priorities, health conditions, social problems, relationships, sleep difficulties and depression. In fact, yoga means not only doing exercise, but also helps to awareness’ expansion, improves intelligence and natural ability is improved. A piece of yoga practice every day will definitely make student community gain more physical strength and get rid of all physical difficulties and diseases. Mental strength gained in yoga helps students to fight against inconsistencies with increasing self-confidence which looks as more powerful. Yoga can empower in the following four ways like Physical Health Empowerment, Emotional Empowerment, Mental Health Empowerment and Spiritual Empowerment. These can be achieved by yoga practices like Yogasana, Pranayama and Meditation. This helps students to begin again their sense of joy, spirit combination and communal kinship.

Guidance for competitive examinations

In India numerous competitive exams are conducted for entrance into undergraduate and post graduate professional courses as well as for securing services in the government sector. The test formats and subjects vary according to the level of the tests. Most are objective tests, followed by a personality test and are conducted in various venues at centers across the country. The UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) & MPSC (Maharashtra Public Services Commission) conduct dozens of exams each year for entry into central government services, combined Medical and Engineering services, Economic service and the Indian Forests services.

 The College arranges various seminars and guest lectures from time to time to encourage the students to prepare for Competitive Examinations. College has an established “Dhyanjyot Center for Competitive Excellence” to promote and guide students to appear for competitive examinations.
